Downdraught Extraction

It is very important that all types of dust/debris are removed from the immediate area of work. If the dust/debris is not immediately removed, the rectification work of the faulty ceramic ware will be affected. The presence of dust/debris will result in the DBB not being able to achieve the best finish on the ceramic ware.

Purpose built workbenches with fitted “downdraught extraction” are available from a number of manufacturers. Seco Engineering recommends that ceramic manufacturers create their own “downdraught extraction systems by simply arranging for a metal hopper to be fabricated and fitted to the underside of the workbench. A metal grill should be fitted to the surface of the workbench to allow for the down movement of the dust/debris. (Diagram A).

Alternatively a much simpler approach is to place large pipes close to the area of work. (Diagram B).

The hopper and pipes link up with a standard vacuum unit. To increase the effectiveness of the suction – it is best to reduce the area effected by the suction to the minimum.
